One More Time

Andy’s musical roots trace back to an era when tie-dye, head bands, hookah pipes and peace symbols were the standard icons of the day – yup, the 60s – the “good old days”.  In 1965, Andy joined The Prophets, having a blast playing the “sock-hop” circuit in the Bay and northern Ontario. The musical passion that developed from this amazing experience led him to move to Toronto in 1973 to pursue a musical career, where he still spends his professional life in music performance /production /composition /recording, and television production.

Those early years in the 60’s with The Prophets marked the beginning of a long musical adventure for Breen. He’s enjoyed a career that spans over 40 years as singer /songwriter /musician/producer. Longtime member of legendary Québec group Offenbach, bassist with Celine Dion and five year member of Canadian Music Hall of Fame group April Wine, Breen now resides with his family in Trois-Rivières, Québec. One of his favorite things is getting together with The Prophets and making music with his lifelong friends Brian, Andy and Steve,

The Prophets were my first “real band” when I was sixteen and they’ve remained my favourite over 45 years of playing drums in local bands. My father was a drummer, who got my older brother started, who got me going.  So, on Sunday mornings the front entrance of our home was pretty crowded with the previous nights drum kits. I’m very proud of the store that I opened in North Bay dedicated solely to drums.  RePercussion Drumshop was the store on Algonquin Avenue with the drum kit set up on the roof.

But the gig that will always remain closest to my heart was the drum solo that my daughter Melissa and I played at her wedding this year.

Wipeout in a wedding dress – it was fantastic.

I look forward to many more Prophet gigs over the coming years.

Playing and teaching the guitar continues to be the focus of Brian’s musical life. “The Prophets” was an important part of his musical development. As a student of classical guitar, he always retained his connection with the R & B and Blues styles he loved so much in his teens. He’s looking forward to reconnecting with his old friends for another show in April of 2012.
